Felix and Oscar are our current kitties.  They both came from the Nike Animal Rescue Foundation.   NARF has a cat adoption every Saturday at the Petco at El Paseo de Saratoga.

Why the names Felix and Oscar?  Felix came with that name from the shelter.  We couldn't think of a better name to suit him.  Then when his little buddy showed up, we decided to call him Oscar, as in the pair in the movie "The Odd Couple."  And, it turns out, the naming was apt, as they are very different cats.

Felix is a classic black and white American Shorthair.  Friendly, quiet, playful, and will sit in anybody's lap if there is the promise of a tummy rub.

We thought Oscar was the same.  But as he has grown up, he has shown traits more common to some of the Asian breeds, like Siamese or Balinese.  While he is black and white, he is very long and lean, his head is more narrow, and he is much more talkative.  So we imagine that he is a mix, though we cannot be sure about a mix of what.

He stayed under the bed for nearly the first 48 hours after arriving in our home.

A week later Oscar arrived, and he stayed under or near the bed for even longer!

Oscar was a kitten of six months when he came to live with us, just a tiny little guy.

Felix was 18 months old when he came to live with us.  He was about as big as he was going to get, but still full of kitten playfulness and vigor.

Once Felix got tired of being under the bed, he started to get comfortable on top of the bed, between Nancy and I.

Nancy was annoyed when Felix and Oscar didn't start playing with their scratching post on day one, and was ready to take it back in a week.  They started playing with it, but cats work on their own schedule.

Felix and Oscar have taken over the guest bedroom as their own.  Fortunately, they seem to be able to share with guests who stay over.
