We also went whale watching!

This is the boat on which we went out, the Trilogy III, though we boarded from the dock in Lahaina rather than on the beach as shown here.

We arrived last for the boat and had to sit on the "trampoline" at the front of the boat.

And whales we saw!

The fluke shots are always spectacular.

Of course, a whale breaching in close is pretty good too.

Still, after a while, whales get dull.  Madeleine fell asleep in the sun.

So, to spice things up, some bottle-nose dolphins showed up.  This woke Madeleine up and she talked about the dolphins for days.

This dolphin is riding the bow wave of the hull right below where we are shown in the first picture on the boat.  No zoom required, the dolphin was about six feet away.

The dolphins swam around the boat and showed off for a while, then swam away.

Meanwhile, the whales were sticking up their flippers and shouting, "Hey, look at us!"  Then they swam under and around the boat themselves.  An excellent whale watching expedition.

We went and had lunch with Grandma Nancy at the Haliimaile General Store.

Out on the steps in front.  It was a bit grey and rainy that day, but still nice and warm.

We went to the dinner magic show at the hotel, Kupanaha. This is Madeleine, after the show, meeting Jody Baran, the magician.

Leaving the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel.  When you leave after your first visit they give you a kukui nut lei.  If you come back, you bring it with you and they put a white kukui nut in your lei.  A few people with us were getting white nuts added to their leis.

And the obligatory beautiful sunset shot.  It is just persistently beautiful on Maui.
