Our last full day at the hospital. We go home on January
3rd.
A quiet day for us at Community Hospital of Los Gatos.
No visitors and only a couple of phone calls. Everybody was back to work
except us it would seem.
I did get to feed Madeleine some formula today. Nancy's
milk wasn't in yet, but Madeleine was making all the signs of getting hungry for
real, or so said the nursery staff.
They also said she needed it to help keep jaundice down by
giving the dead red blood cells some fatty matter to which to adhere to allow
them to be passed through Madeleine's digestive tract.
Some guy named Billy Reuben got mentioned a few times, but I
never saw him*.
So they brought us a bottle of formula which I fed to
Madeleine in for short bursts with some time for burping in between.
Here is dad actually giving Madeleine the bottle. Note the fashionable
burping cloth over my shoulder.
And, of course, dad trying to burp Madeleine between feeds. I need to work
on technique here. She never once burped over my should that I could
tell. She waited until she was back in my arms again.
Finally, dad holding Madeleine while trying to make that half ounce of formula
last for at least 20 minutes.

*Yes, I know it is, in fact, bilirubin and it is what makes
you yellow when you have jaundice. Don't write me and tell me I'm an idiot
(at least not for this). It is a joke.
