Farewell ComputerWare!

MacWilliamson.com Back To Index

On April 4th 2001 I learned that ComputerWare would be closing its doors for good.  It had been announced the previous day and all of the stores aside from the one in Sunnyvale were shut down.

There were postings about it on MacInTouch and MacCentral.  Even the San Jose Mercury News carried a piece that mentioned the end of ComputerWare.

Emails were sent all over and quick reunion of current and former ComputerWare employees was held at Fibber McGee's on Murphy Street in Sunnyvale on the evening of April 5.

Here are some pictures from that event.  Click on the thumbnails to see the full sized picture.  If you have anything to add, or can supply names for the faces in the pictures, feel free to drop me an email here.

April 6th - Dale Dimas sent me the pictures he took and said I could post them.

CWFullGroup1.jpg (89116 bytes) Full group
This is a shot of just about everybody who attended the get together.  I'd love to name everybody, but its been 9 years since I worked at ComputerWare, so most people were vaguely familiar at best.

A shot from early in the evening, when the sun was up.

RossJohnEricMeYuji.jpg (82356 bytes) More Names
Ross Gard, John Madden, Eric Kopf, myself, and Yuji Honma.  I am grimacing while telling Dale how to use my camera.

RossJohnEricMeYujiLegs.jpg (75737 bytes) Legs
This was Dale's first shot with the camera, which is why I was explaining its function to him in the above photo.

DDRossJohnEricMeYuji.jpg (72807 bytes) Same Group Again
This is the shot of us that Dale took with his own camera.  Neither camera appears to have persuaded me to smile. Picture courtesy of Dale Dimas.

CWSunnyvale2.jpg (115570 bytes) ComputerWare Sunnyvale
Notice the sign still says "OPEN" as of April 5th. (Okay, not a picture of the get together, but still on subject.)

Another shot, taken further back, to show the grandeur of its full store front.  You can see how people might mistakenly drive a truck through it...(one of those stories for another time).
